Sport is Good for Your Health… and Your Friendship
Feb 6, 2010
What sports do you like? Personally, I like swimming and playing tennis. I like swimming because I dont feel tired immediately and it’s a relaxing sport. Tennis is my favorite because it’s classy and not many teenager do that, and that makes it sounds exclusive.
What sports don’t you like? I hate basketball. I dont really like sport that engages body contact. I dont like getting hurt. Hahaha…. My body is small and thin, and I can not understand the rules of basketball. However, I used to join a martial art club in my high school. I was pretty good and it made me physically stronger. Until one time I break my arm when I was fighting. I didnt really break my arm, but just bent my bone (I believe, It’s just as hurt as breaking ur bone).
Now I’m in university. I study Information Technology, a major which is usually enrolled mostly by boys. Many of them are geek and freak (although, I consider myself a freak in some degrees, too). Most of them like playing computer games, like DotA or other multiplayer games (I’m not really into it). Our conversation mostly occupied by discussing those games or “technology” topic. However, I found out that they also like doing sports. Some of them asked me to go swimming with them, some other prefer basketballs or futsal, some other badminton, and there was also one boy who like playing tennis!
I try to join them doing those sports as often as possible. By doing sports, I feel more healthy and fresh. Sometimes I need some refreshments and escapes from computer things. Although I used to hate football, but I try to play that with my friends. I’m not good but I have fun. In fact, our friendship is getting stronger and I can know more about my friends. We become more loyal to each other.
Some people advise gay people to do manly things, such as masculine sports (football, soccer, basketball, etc) or martial arts. It seems funny, but it’s really good. Who said that sports are only for straight people? I’m not saying doing sports is for straight acting (although it can be like that), but it’s much more than that. It’s for socializing with your friends. Sport is what boys do to socialize and interact with each other. They like physical contacts and bump s. It’s just their way.
One thing is interesting for me. Although my friends love sports, when they are having a little break after doing sports, do you know what topic they talk about in their break? YES, It’s DotA again…. WkWkwkwkw…

My Testimony: Miracles Are Wrought Through Prayer
Feb 4, 2010
Hmm…
I believe in miracles. I have received miracles. Many of them are unexpected and unpredictable, but they are precisely what I need.
I received another miracle on Feb 4, 2010. On that day, I had two appointments, a companionship with my missionaries to an investigators house and a home teaching to one my branch’s member. I wanted to ride my motorbike because it would much easier to go with missionaries along the way, since they rode bikes. Moreover, I have learned from my previous experience that usually investigators’ houses or members’ houses are located in a small alley and only bikes or motorbikes can go through.
During last few weeks, it is very usual to rain in the afternoon (3.00 pm) to night (8.00 pm). My appointment with the missionaries was at 3.00 pm. I really hoped that the sky would be clear.
At 2.30 pm, the sky was little bit dark and I didnt see the sun. I knew it was going to rain hard as it begins to drizzle. So, I prayed to my Heavenly Father and asked so I will be given a good and clear day. I also asked Him to keep me dry. When I was about to leave, it still drizzled and getting harder. I was afraid.
I stayed calm and submit myself to God. I thought that it might be His will to give rain. I put my rain cloak on and begin to ride my motorbike to the appointment place. After 10 minutes, the rain began to stop. At first, I couldnt believe it and asked God why he stopped the rain. (I was not complaining, just wondering… hahaha ^o^)
Well, I was quite happy and I arrived dry at the appointment place. ^_^ The companionship went well, eventhough the investigator rejected the Restored Gospel.
After accompaniying the missionaries, I did the home teaching to one of member’s house. The sky was still dark but it didnt rain. The home teaching went well. Then, I went home. On the way home, I saw many lightning stroke the earth and I knew that I had to go home soon.
At 7.50 pm I arrived at my house. Right after I put my motorbike to my garage, the sky couldnt hold much longer anymore and it rained hard immediately. Woowww…!!! It was unbelieveable. Had I went home any later, I might have been very wet. I laughed myself at that time and my mom, who saw me laughing, were confused. She didnt have any idea why I was laughing. I really would like to tell her, but I didnt think she would want to hear any “miracles from my God”. Wkwkwk…
So, I guess I received this miracle because I had prayed about it before. Maybe some of you think that it is just a coincidence. It’s up to you to say that, I’m not gonna argue. But, personally it’s a miracle for me. The prophet Joseph Smith himself once told the church members to pray to stop the incoming storm and it worked. The prophet Thomas S. Monson once prayed to ask for rain in Samoa and it worked. I’m not saying that I put myself equal to prophet or I’m a prophet (That’s very unlikely to happen… ^_^), but I’m saying that if we pray fervently our prayers will be answered.
As what President Thomas S. Monson said, “The miracles are wrought through prayer”. I testified that these things are true, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amin.

My First “Lie” in the Church; The Act Of Being Straight
Feb 2, 2010
I believe every (or most) gay man have acted straight in order to keep their same-gender attraction. In order to do so, they usually hang out with other straight man and mimic those straight’s attitude. Or maybe they do manly sports, like football or basketball. Or maybe they try to date some girls and show off “the girlfriend” to their friends.
Well, I did those things in the past but I dont really bother my self to do them anymore, since I’ve already come out. However, I did it again (acting straight), accidentally…. I didnt have any intention to act straight, but people think that I am straight.
Here is the story. You know that on January 1, 2010, I went to Madura Island with a girl from the church. Let’s just call her “Sister”. We were from two different branches in a same city. So, I went to there with this sister only. For many people, this trip sounds a little bit romantic, because just involving two people (with different genders, of course). At first, it was supposed to be a four-people trip. But, the other two people, who were our friends and they were a couple, were somehow unable to join us. I really wanted to go to Madura Island, so I still went there even though with only one companion. It was a two-day trip.
At that time, I didnt really care what people would think about us. We didnt do anything sexual at all, but just having a holiday as friends. However, somehow I know about this sister. She loves talking and maybe a little bit gossiping. She is also a little bit melodramatic. So, I know it’s just a matter of time before anybody knew about our trip. And I was right. (To this sister: If you read this, please know that you are still a nice girl and a good friend for me)
A few weeks after we got back from Madura Island, on Jan 24, 2010, I went to her branch because of district assignment regarding my calling in Family Search Center. When I was in my office, she said that we need to talk. I asked why. She said that people started gossiping about us being in a more-than-just-friends relationship. She started to mention one by one who might knew about this. She was afraid that I might be uncomfortable because hearing this issue. I told her I’m really fine. To be frankly, I think she was just exaggerating. Because until that day, I’ve never heard any issue like that. No one in the Church ever asked me about my trip or my “relationship”. So I didnt really care with what she said.
I think I know who started the gossip. The only people who knew about our trip were me, this sister, this sister’s little sister, this sister’s mom, and this sister’s friend (who were about to join our trip, but didnt. And she is a girl). They are all WOMAN… And woman naturally loves, yeah you’re right, gossiping. And they are all in the same branch with this sister.
So, as the gossip spreads like plague, I met my two missionary on Feb 3, 2010. In our conversation, they explicitly said that they knew about my trip and thought that I have more-than-just-friends relationship with this sister. Whooaa… Now the gossip went to the missionaries. How come my missionaries in my own branch knew about this issue? I thought no one know about this except me. I told the missionaries that I just had a trip with this sister as friends and nothing romantic or sexual happened between us. But, they seemed didn’t believe in me.
Haha…
Now, as you might guess, everybody in church will think that I’m in more-than-just-friends relationship with this sister. Which means THEY THINK I’m straight. I never told anybody that I was straight, but they fell on the prejudice they created themselves. So, I just followed what they wanted to think. Remember, I DONT LIE to them, but I just DONT TELL THE TRUTH. It’s different.
To tell you the truth, I dont really care if anybody in the church know I have same gender attraction. I was interviewed by my mission president and I came clean to him about my sexuality. He said I was worthy to join the church and now I’m ordained as elder and have two callings. And I believe he knows about this. So, if anyone in the church wants to raise an issue about my same-gender attraction, they are gonna regret it and embarras themselves.
You might think that it’s so unhealthy for me to keep silent like this. You might think it will much better if I tell the truth and release the burden in my heart. However, I already accepted the way I am. And I’m ready to come out to everybody, ONLY IF THEY ASK ME. If no one ask me, why should I bother to tell anyone about my sexuality? I’m not a public figure / celebrity whom everybody interested in. I’m just an ordinary boy and I dont really think people really interested in my sexuality or my life. I think they are more interested in what I’m capable to do or my skills than my sexual attraction. So, if there is no straight man boasting his straightness, why should I boast my same-gender attraction?

Am I Worthy Enough to Spread the Gospel?
The Following conversation took place on Feb 2, 2010, when I was meeting with Missionaries to study with.
Elder Chipman asked me, “Joned, would you like to give us a referral next week?”
I just smiled and murmured something like, “I dont know”
Then He asked me again, “Okey, would you like to TRY to find a referral?”
I said to him, “Owh, I dont know. I think I might not be worthy”
Elder Chipman, “Why not? Are you…”
I said quickly, “I completely obey to law of chastity. I mean, It’s not that kind of worthiness”
Elder Chipman, “So what? Tell us…!”
I said, “Ah.. I’ll tell you sometimes next week. I’m not ready now.”
Elder Chipman,”Oh okay. Next week we are going to learn how to become a missionary as member of the Church.”
Bah! Bah! And Bah again! (btw, this is not swearing or cursing. It’s just my expression of being little bit fed up)
I do believe that my religion (the Church) is important to me, thus I should spread the Gospel to anyone near when I have the chance, so they will enjoy the same happiness I feel. I’ve been a member for about 6 months and I’ve been meeting missionaries for about 9 months, and not even one referral I’ve ever given to them. I feel little bit guilty. I think there were so many chances for me to spread the Gospel or at least let people know about my Church.
However, It’s not that easy. There is a part in my heart saying that I’m not worthy to spread to Gospel. I believe, if anyone wants to “boast” or to show theirselves as true Christian, they should have Christ-like behavior. They would like such hypocrite if they spread the gospel but they still do sin in purpose, such as tell lies, being greedy, full of anger, saying profanity, sex outside wedlock, smoking, doing drugs, full of pride, not helping poor and needy people, etc.
I have so many of my friends, who claims to be “true Christian”, but they dont act Christ-like. They are very proud of their churches (for not joining Mormon Church or other heretical churches), they say that they pray as often as possible and boast their Christianity in many other way. But on the other hand, they dont really obey the God’s commandments (the list is too exhaustive for mentioning them one by one). You know what I mean, right?
I know that nobody’s perfect. I know that even my missionaries have a lot of things to improve. However, I can see the differences the one who really try to live according to the Gospel and the one who just boast their Christianity.
Well, why do I still think that I’m not worthy?
I really want to spread the Gospel. I want to be an example that a Mormon man is a good man who lives according to the Gospel. Many people in my campus know me as a good and positive student. But not many of them know me that I’m a Mormon. On the other hand, My parents know me that I’m a Mormon and they also know me that I’m not a good son.
Mm… I used to be a good son who obey all my mom’s instruction, who always never said no, who understand how to respect my parents. But, they dont see me like that anymore. Lately, for the last two/three years, I’ve been having many arguments with my parents. A lot of things. Our family situation now is changed. I cant tell you the details.
At one point, my dad and I had an argument. Then in the middle of dispute, he said, “Your convertion to the new religion doesnt make you a better person! It’s useless.”
At another time, my mom and I had an argument. And in the middle of our dispute, she said, “What are you taught by your Church?!” indicating her disapointment because I didnt respect her (according to her).
And after each those two arguments, I ended up crying like a baby in my own room. Their words really hurt my heart. I know I’m not perfect, but it doesnt mean I’m trying to become a better person. I really hate it when they always use “my-new-religion” shot. Cant they just say I’m a bad son without bringing up religion stuff?
So, when Elder Chipman asked me whether I can give him a referral, I was not sure. If I couldnt show positive side of my Church even to my own parents, how can I do that to other people? I’m afraid that I’m being such a hypocrite, telling people to join my family-oriented church, but I cant even maintain good relationships within my own family.
Maybe I need to talk to the missionary what I should do. I’ve been always praying to my Heavenly Father so I can have a chance to spread the Gospel to anyone near me. And I also pray so I can become a better person day by day.
Well, that’s my thought. Any comment?
New Glasses, Different Look, Perfect Sight
Hey!
Have you ever been in situation when you are already wearing glasses and you still cant see clearly? And people will say something like, “Hey you already have 4 eyes and you still cant see clearly??!!” I hate this moment… Well, Usually it means that you have to change your glasses.
I have been in that situation many times. But I got new glasses now. My minus eyes now can see anything clearly. Before I got new glasses, I had to wink my eyes to see. I looked really dumb when someone waving at me from distant and I couldnt see clearly who he is. I just waved back without recognizing him.
When I got my new glasses, I really enjoyed it. I could see and read any small writings around me when I was walking. Hehehe…

Interesting Trivia on the English Language
English is one of the hardest languages in the world to learn. For those of us that speak it, it may be hard to understand why. But when taking a closer look at all of the rules, syllables, and different sounds that can come from the same letters, it’s a little easier to see why one who doesn’t have English as a mother tongue can have a tough time catching on. Below is some interesting trivia regarding this beautiful (and sometimes awkward and difficult) language.
The longest word in the English language is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. This is a term for a type of lung disease that is caused by silica dust. The word can be found in an unabridged dictionary, making it the longest actual word in the English language.
“Screeched” and “strengths” are the two longest one-syllable words in the English language.
There are four words in the English language which show all of the vowels in alphabetical order. They are: facetious, abstemious, annelidous, and arsenious.
There are only two words in the English language which show the five vowels in reverse alphabetical order. These are: duoliteral, and subcontinental. If you include “y” in with the vowels, the word “uncomplimentary” also falls into this category.
Vowels however are not the only letters that appear in remarkable English. There are also a number of words that contain the longest strings of consonants. These are: bergschrunds, borschts, eschscholtzia, latchstring, and weltschmerz.
The longest word in the English language with no one letter to appear twice is uncopyrightable.
The longest sentence to contain the sound of “ee” is, “He believed Caesar could see people seizing the seas.”
In the same way, the “ough” spelling also has many different pronunciations. A sentence containing all the ways that this odd spelling can be said is, “A rough-coated, dough-faced, thoughtful ploughman strode through the streets of Scarborough after falling into a slough.”
With all the different rules, pronunciations, and spellings, it’s no wonder why the English language is considered to be one of the most complex languages in the world.

I Coached Basic Management Training for High School Students
January 20-21, 2010
I have a lot of public speaking experience. I have no problem speaking in front of large audience. Usually I become MC / Host. But, I’ve never become a coach to train high school students. I’ve never had the slightest idea of doing such thing. However, I was given the chance and I took it.
On January 20-21, 2010, I coached basic management training for high school students. I did this because of the request of my head of department. He has helped me so much in my university study, thus I think it’s inappropriate for me to reject the request. Moreover, the students are not just from a random high school, SMA Negeri 2 Surabaya, which is my high school!! Hahaha…..
So, when I saw the students, I remembered my high school time. I recalled my class, my friends, my teachers, the canteen, the staffs, the activites, etc. Wkwkwk… It was a happy time. I was still an innocent boy at that time (dont believe me!)
Anyway, on those days, I met the teachers. Some of them were my old teacher and some of them are new teachers. But, they all remembered me! Ow…. So sweet. I talked with them and laughed with them. They were Mrs. Tatiek, Mr. David, Mrs. Endang, Mr. Asmiadji, Mr. Arlinah, etc. (I’m sorry, I cant remember all. But I still know you and love you. ^_^)
Well, at 8.30 I started my training. I trained them about basic management. I studied this subject when I was in my New Student Orientation in 2007. I taught about 4 management functions , which is Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling. Actually, that’s the main core of mangement study.
This 4 management functions is very useful and can be applied to our daily life / work in achieving our objectives. You can check yourself the presentation for more information. It’s simple, yet powerful. It’s just like what Book of Mormon says in Alma 37:6, “…. that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth cofound the wise.”
The Presentation download link: Basic Management PDF
When giving my presentation, I always make fun of myself and launch fresh jokes. I didnt want to bore them. After teaching the theory, I asked to apply the theory on a game called “Tower Building”. They make a group of ten and they have to make a tower from pipes. The tower should be as tall as possible, yet safe and cost efficient. The more pipes they use, the more expensive their tower. They have to work in team and apply 4 management functions to achieve the objectives.
They were so excited, that the room was crowded. Haha… It didnt matter, as long as they had fun and they learned something valuable.
After thirty minutes, I checked their tower one by one. Some groups finished their job, some other couldnt finished the tower they desired. Their tower would be hit by a ball to check the strength. Some of their tower collapsed, some other stood still. If they apply the theory well, they should be able to create a tall, safe, and cost efficient tower.
Well, this training went very well I think. I’m considering, maybe one day I will be a coach for some other training, which is bigger, more professional, and of course profitable. Hehehe….

One of My Most Sincere Prayer
16 January 2010
This evening, I was very grateful and little bit astonished of my self. I prayed to my Heavenly Father and it was one of the most sincere prayer I’ve ever done. Surprisingly, I didnt cry. Usually, when it comes to deep prayer, I often cry. But, not this evening. That’s why I was astonished.
When I was hanging out in my Facebook, commenting my friends’ statuses, I saw one of my friend’s status which was quite shocking my heart. She said that she was afraid couldnt continue her university study. It rightly came to my mind that she had financial difficulty. I knew that, because she texted me the day before that she was late paying the tuition fee for the next semester. At that time, I didnt realize that she had financial difficulty, since it’s very common for students in UC (Universitas Ciputra) to be late paying the tuition fee not because they have financial difficulty, but because they forget. Most of them have rich parents and doesnt really care about the tuition fee.
Well, right after I knew she was in difficulty, I send her a message and told her what to do. I told her that I was in her situation before, thus I knew what to do. I advised her to come and consult to our Head of Department. He was such a nice guy and he would help every student of his. I also told her that there was scholarship for UC students which she could apply for. Right now, my other friends and I have an intention to help her the best we can.
I was in this situation before, and I was really depressed. I know how it feel when you were rich and had everything, then suddenly(or slowly) without you realized it, everything’s gone. I consider this as a very valuable lesson.
At this moment, things are getting better little by little. At least, they dont get worse and I’m grateful for that. Thus, this evening I prayed for my friend so she will get through this. I also prayed for my self, my parents, my closest friends, missionary, church member’s and church leaders. It was one of the most sincere prayer and I really felt good. I had faith and hope that miracles will soon come to me.

Mormon Message – Prayer
Learn from a humble woman’s example how the power of prayer can work miracles in our lives.
A Friend Lied to Drag Me to MLM Business.
January 8, 2009
Have you ever been invited by your friend to join his business? I bet you have, at least once.
But, when you asked him what kind of business it was, he refused to answer clearly. He might say it’s a good business, easy to run anytime and anywhere, small capital, fast return of investments and only require networking skills. He also might add “It has potential of XXXXX million of income per month”. Then he would ask you to attend a the so-called “business presentation”. If you encounter this, your friend is likely inviting you to join MLM Business (Multi-level Marketing).
You might want to know what MLM is. Here you are the explanation of MLM provided by Wikipedia:
Multi-level marketing (MLM), (also called network marketing[1][2][3][4][5], direct selling[6][3], referral marketing[7], and pyramid selling[8][9][10][11][12]) is a term that describes a marketing structure used by some companies as part of their overall marketing strategy. The structure is designed to create a marketing and sales force by compensating promoters of company products not only for sales they personally generate, but also for the sales of other promoters they introduce to the company, creating a downline of distributors and a hierarchy of multiple levels of compensation in the form of a pyramid.
The products and company are usually marketed directly to consumers and potential business partners by means of relationship referrals and word of mouth marketing.[13]
I’ve joined this kind of business when I was in high school. I’ve also attended some of their “business presentation”. Some of MLM I know were Amway, MQNet,Kangzen Kenko, Tianshi, HD, etc. At first, I was very excited of this business. I make many downlines and attend some motivation seminars. But, It only lasted several months.
Why? First, MLM Company has many products that you need to sell (or buy for yourselves). And those products usually cost you a fortune. Some are good-quality garbages, and some are just normal garbages and the rest are expensive garbages. ^_^
Second, I dont really like the way of how to run this business. You see, I have to do many calls and invite my friends to see our “business presentation”. Some of them might be interested, but most of them have already been aware of what I’m doing. Many people hates MLM businessman because sometimes they are so stubborn , persistent and “forceful”.
Third, I dont really like the system of this business. The more you get downline, the richer you are. It means, only the pioneer uplines will be rich. The last-time downlines will have to work their ass off to get more other downlines.
Anyway, after few years break from doing MLM Business (I never want to get back to do it again), my friend asked me to join a business. Let’s say his name is Hans.
The words inside the brackets are my commentaries.
Hans: Ned, would you like to join a business with me?
Joned: Wow, It’s very unusual you ask me to join a business. What is it? (We rarely chat and meet. But then suddenly out of nowhere he ask me to join a business. It’s weird right?)
H: It’s selling mineral water
J: Ow… Is it good? What’s the difference with Aqua? (It’s the number one brand of mineral water in Indonesia)
H: Yeah, It’s much better than Aqua.
J: Ow.. okey. So, What’s the system of business?
H: Well, why dont you come over to my place and I’ll explain to you.
J: Hmmm… Ok. Anyway, It’s not MLM, right? Cos, I hate MLM.
H: Nope. The system is benery.
J: Benery? What is that?
H: It means partnership of two people. If your partner’s selling is good, then you will get some profit too.
J: Ooowww… You mean binary…!! (Hans is stupid in English I think)
H: So, How? Are u interested?
J: Hhmm.. Oke. As long as it is not MLM, I’d love to hear more.
Well…., few days later I came to his house. There were some other people too. They were also invited to join this business. After a few minutes, A man presented the business system. He was the upline of Hans, but I didnt realize it yet. I only thought he was just the Big Boss. The system itself is called SmartV.
First, he explained the products. Then he explained how the system work. When he explained that there were donwlines and uplines in the system, I knew right away that it was MLM business. I had been deceived!
When I ask Hans again why did he lie, he said ” I didnt lie. This is not MLM, because it’s using benery system ” (Oh yes, he mispelled it wrong again). And I thought, “Okay, whatever is that, I dont like it. I’m outta here”
Bah! That’s why many people hate MLM businessman. They try all means to get people to come to business presentation. Maybe I was stupid enough to trust him…
PS: I’m not saying those MLM companies are bad companies. They do have good products and marketing systems. But they just dont suit me. I prefer other kind of business to run which is much more fun and full of honesty/clarity.
Joned
